Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves, previously referred to as Kattaka Caves or Cuttack caves, are partly pure and partly synthetic caves of archaeological, historic and non secular significance close to the town of Bhubaneswar in Odisha, India. They’ve a quantity caves constructed through the 2nd century BCE.

The rocks of the Khandagiri hills had been carved and tunneled, to create this multi-storied historic house residence for Jain monks. They had been the work of the primary identified Odishan ruler, King Kharavela, and doubtless begun within the first century BC. Kharavela was a king of the Mahameghavahana dynasty, who is understood for enlargement of the Kalinga empire and his set up of public enhancements, similar to canal methods. His queen was evidently fairly a patron of the humanities, and doubtless had a lot to do with the spectacular sculptural ornament of the caves.
